The Little Journal Project Week 2 & 3

I had a lot of fun finishing up weeks two and three of Ashley's Little Journal Project over at Lil Blue Boo

Day 9: Group Photo
This picture is from my 18th birthday. I LOVED Perry the Platypus at the time, and what started as a joke between my sister Hannah, my friend Caleb, and I turned into my birthday theme. My husband Paul was just a really good friend of mine at the time, and he was in USAF training 3 hours away. I had invited him to my birthday party, but he didn't believe he could make it. Well, he had already given my gift to my family, so we made plans to Skype with him when i around 6pm so he could see me open it. Around 5:45 or so, I was in the kitchen talking with some friends when I heard someone walk in. I looked up and saw Paul standing in the kitchen and I started crying. I have rarely been that excited in my life. I was speechless! {The only other time that would rival this excitement was when he proposed.} Best Birthday EVER! The picture on this page was taken after my party when a group of us went to see a late showing of Captain America.

Day 10: Things that are Important to You
Well, I think it was supposed to be trinkets...but there are no rules, right? Starting from top left: A quilt my grandmother made, Blackie-My stuffed animal dog I've had FOREVER...he has been all over the country, My wedding band and engagement ring {yellow gold, pear cut diamond}, earring that were my grandmother's, a monogram necklace from my husband, a small diamond ring my grandmother gave me for my 13th birthday, and a tea cup from the Father Daughter conference my sister and I went to with my dad in 2006...I think.

Day 11: Somewhere You Spent a lot of Time as a Child
My grandparents' old farm. My grandfather bred Pointers for a while and I loved playing with the puppies! {The pony and 4 wheelers were fun too!}

Day 12: Books You Loved as a Child
This was both really easy and super hard. I read every possible second I could as a child, and read almost anything I could get my hands on. Here are some of my favorites: The American Girl Doll Books, Brown Bear Brown Bear, The life of Faith Series {Millie was my favorite}, Red Rock Mysteries, The Hobbit, Fancy Nancy, The Hunger Games, Sherlock Holmes, Woof, Mustang: Wild Spirit of the West, The Treasure Tree, Little House on the Prairie, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Lord of the Rings, Misty of Chincoteague, Crown and Covenant Series, and many many more.
Also, it is rather hard to write with crayons...

Day 13: Random Bits of Paper
i found some pretty paper, tape, and stickers to add some 'flair' to my journal.

Day 14: Family Tree
I'm still working on this one-gathering details from my family and in-laws, but I'm enjoying this greatly. I feel like it is something my future kids will enjoy looking at one day.

Day 15: Draw with Your Non-Dominant Hand & Write Down Some Thoughts
I drew and colored two Corgis from start to finish with my left hand. I must admit the I surprised myself! The writing was done with my right hand. I feel like God has been teaching {and giving} me patience. It is so hard to wait for the things we want...and to be grateful for the things we have. I feel like patience with other people is somewhere I often fail, but God is good to forgive and help us when we ask Him. Oh! I also added a bit of the flair from Day 13.

I'm still loving this project and looking forward to next week's prompts! I hope you enjoyed looking at my pages!

Crazy for Coconut!

I have recently rediscovered my love for all things coconut--coconut shampoo, coconut body wash, home-made coconut sugar scrub {Post on that coming soon}, and just how awesome coconut is with chocolate!

Starbuck's Mocha Coconut Frappuccinos are one of my favorite drinks ever, but sadly, they are seasonal. {By the way, you MUST try a Mocha Coconut Cookie Crumble Frappuccino with caramel. It is like a Samoa cookie in a cup! YUM!}  So I decided to make my own...I feel like I got pretty close to the correct flavor, but more on that later. ;)

Since chocolate and coconut go so well together, I figured why not turn it into a cookie? I know that has already been done, but I'm known for my chocolate chip & chocolate cherry chip cookies, so I figured I'd make a coconut version...super yummy! {and the guys at hubby's work seemed to like them as well ;)}

Want to make some for yourself? Well, here you go!

  • 1 1/2 cups sweetened coconut flakes
  • 2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 sticks salted butter
  • 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cups packed brown sugar
  • 1 to 1 1/2 teaspoon(s) coconut extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups (12 oz package) Hershey's Special Dark Chocolate chips

First you are going to want to toast some coconut flakes. There are two methods of doing this: Oven or stovetop. I did mine on the stovetop.

Be careful, the coconut will burn EASILY. You put the coconut flakes in the pan over medium-high heat, keep stirring until the coconut is a lovely golden brown color. Set aside.

Next you will cream your butter, sugars, and coconut extract together. Add eggs, one at a time, scraping and beating till well mixed. Mix flour and baking soda, slowly add to sugar mixture. Once well miked add coconut and chocolate chips. Drop rounded tablespoons onto a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 for 8-10 minutes.

Enjoy!

Sneak Peek

At my newest project ;) I'm very exited about this one...I may even need to make it for myself as well. It would be like a walking advertisement, right? I'm also in love with the color...this was the only yarn like this that I have been able to find. If I ever find more I am buying ALL of it right then!

I also added two super cute items to my Etsy shop today. It was fun taking pictures of them...the neighbors probably thought I was crazy. I had taken some indoor pictures of the items, but they didn't look right. After doing some research, I decided to use natural lighting...so outside it was! Well, I live in a rather populated community and I was simply wandering around with baby items taking random pictures of them. ...the neighbors DID give me a few funny looks...

I'm in love with these owl cables! I see more projects with them in the future. ;) Same as with any item I knit, this owl set can be made in any color/size. Just convo me on Etsy and let me know! Speaking of Etsy, you should totally go check out the Owl Set in more detail: http://www.etsy.com/shop/TheFuzzyKiwi

In other news, it has been a very calm day. I cleaned up the house and gave MyAirman a haircut. He was getting a little fuzzy for his liking. He now has a very tough looking high and tight ;) Still as handsome as ever, though!

Hello World

This is the begining of a new venture for me...One I am very excited about! This is the blog for my shop The Fuzzy Kiwi. While most of my posts will be knitting related, I will be posting about all about my crazy life. Be sure to check out my facebook page and Etsy shop! Thanks for stoping by!
